This class is designed for you to join at any time throughout.

  • Whether it’s the first time you’ve danced micro or you just want to meet some other dancers, come get your weekend off to a great start.

 SATURDAY WORKSHOPS

2 - 3 pm Saturday

  • Description text goes hereCreating snuggly embrace with your dance partner is like building the ultimate cozy nest. First we lay the groundwork of the nest and then layer the fluffy pieces on top for a nest that is uniquely designed for the maximum comfort of you and your dance partner. In this class, we’ll be covering the 4 steps on how to build a closed position and a close embrace - as well as how to change between dance positions for your own comfort. Creating the embrace is a continuous art form, requiring consistent attention to the mutual comfort of you and your partner as we adapt to the ever-changing moment. As we practice the art of nest-building, we can rest deeper and deeper into the relaxation that is so essential for micro dancing.

  • Do you want to dance? What’s your role preference? How close should we be?

We often ask these questions verbally, but they can be done nonverbally. As partner dancers we use body shape and physical touch to nonverbally negotiate throughout a dance. Using embrace, we’ll learn how to continually ask and answer these questions with our bodies to check in and maintain consent.

3:15-4:15 pm Saturday

  • Are you prepared to embark on a musical journey to uncover the answer? Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, we'll delve into songs that evoke that distinct 'micro feel.' However, our exploration extends beyond sensory experience. Guided by theories of neuroscience, we'll transition from feeling to understanding, deciphering the precise musical elements that elicit this sensation. By the end of this class, you'll possess the knowledge to succinctly articulate what defines micro music.

  • A simple line drawing requires only the most essential markings for the viewer to understand. Dancing micro is similar in that you don’t need a lot of complexity; the tiniest of movements can speak volumes into the space. However, doing less means that the clarity and intentionality of your movement become incredibly important. In this class, we will be introducing the building blocks of micro dancing starting with breathing, weight changes, and embrace. It will be quality over quantity as we layer these pieces together - always remembering to let the negative space speak first.

4:15 - 4:45 pm Saturday: Open Practice

4:45 -5:45 pm Saturday

  • Come explore how to transform how you listen to any musical tempo or genre to keep dancing micro to anything.

  • Co creating a dance means more than a lead just dictating the movement of the follow, it requires an awareness of cause and effect. By using the analogy of our embrace as a pinball arena we can do just that developing the practices of initiation, observation, and follow through. Join us as we explore interactive dynamic pressure in our embrace and alternative points of connection to create balance, initiate micro movements in our partners, and discover interesting shapes in our own bodies.

6 - 7 pm Saturday

  • Uplevel your feeling of connectedness to yourself, other dancers, and the community as we play and explore building emotional closeness together.

  • For many of us, a moment of quiet in conversation is anxiety-inducing; we worry that we seem dumb, uncertain, or boring, and we say whatever we can to fill the space we're afraid to take. When we do this in dance, we add extra noise to the partnership instead of allowing for silence and creating dynamic contrast. Together we'll work to ease our nervousness, slow ourselves down, and learn how to make our stillness as loud as our motion.

7 - 9 pm Saturday

  • A BIPoC social space to connect, converse, and share treats with other BIPoC community members. Some tasty treats provided.

SUNDAY WORKSHOPS

2 - 3 pm Sunday

  • We all know that late night state of flow that comes with exhaustion and the desire to slow down and melt into our partner. But how do we get there from any starting place? By tuning in to our own physical sensations and that of the body of our partner! Utilizing sensory experiences and body awareness techniques, we will dive into some mechanics and micro movement isolations to explore one of the most powerful paths towards that ooey gooey melty state of dance - Our breath!

  • We're comfortable with soft and flowy - what about sharp and clear? In this class we'll explore solo ribcage and shoulder movement before applying it in partnership. Learn to "lead" an isolation, draw cool shapes with your torso, and add a fun new texture to your micro.

3:15 - 4:15 pm Sunday

  • Are you a lead who wants to be able to level up their dancing (and dance partner options) by learning to follow? This class is specifically targeted for primary leads to enhance and fine tune your listening skills. Come learn to correct the common mistakes made by folks moving into following, and learn how to drop in to listening to your partner and responding to their leads.

  • Primary follows unite! Together we will dive into our creativity to make dancing with anyone fun and feel more connected. There will also be opportunity to share what you do or think about to bring out your follow shine.

4:15 - 4:45 pm Sunday ~ Open Practice

4:45 - 5:45 pm Sunday

  • Delve deep within your kinesthetic body as we explore the Sensual, Nuanced, & Attuned aspects of intimate micro dancing. Our journey starts with unlocking the full aliveness of the spinal movement in the body through engaging with the spine’s three primary movements - flexion, extension, and rotation. Through the awakening of the spine, we can then venture into techniques and undulatory movements inspired from traditional partner dancing and the practice of Kundalini yoga. We'll focus on discovering and enhancing shared pleasures, learning to recognize what feels right and how to effectively communicate these feelings with your partner. Our approach is not just about the movement - it’s about the shared experience of joy and pleasure in dance and how that can transform your dance into a truly sensual and vibrant experience.

  • Have you ever watched two people dance and couldn’t tell who was leading and who was following? This class will explore switching seamlessly between leading and following by using musical phrasing, energy, and stillness. Come learn the tricks to make transitions between roles so fluid, maybe you won’t even know who’s leading!

6 - 7 pm Sunday

  • This workshop envelopes you further into the rich and intimate world of micro dancing, deepening the focus on the Sensual, Nuanced, & Attuned aspects. Building upon the foundational skills developed in Part 1, this class shifts the focus from structural elements and movement vocabulary to the exploration of our internal experiences and energies.

We begin by embarking on a journey of self-discovery, experiencing and noticing the innate pleasure that emerges bountifully from our own presence. Through this connection with our own erotic center, we are cultivating a relationship with pleasure that is independent and self-attuned - so that we are not desperately “hunting” externally for unmet needs. This personal exploration sets the stage for deeper interdependent connections in dance, allowing us to experience how our individual energies can intertwine and beautifully amplify with each other. We will also introduce the concept of 'pleasure stacking,' a practice of exploring emergent joy from shared and attuned experiences in dance. How much pleasure can you possibly receive in your energetic body? This concept embodies the idea that the sum of shared experiences in dance can lead to an outcome greater than the individual parts – the 1+1=3 of dance. Deepen your understanding of intimacy in dance, expand your capacity for joy and pleasure, and live in the unfolding richness of the moment.

(Bring a partner that you feel comfortable exploring deep intimacy with, or if you’re an intimacy explorer there will be an open rotation for you too!)

  • Lead like the softest breeze and follow like a leaf on the wind! Shaping can make dancing as natural as breathing. When one dancer creates space, the other seeks to fill it. This ebb and flow can create supremely gentle dances that are light as air!

Let’s go dance! 💙💙💙
