WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

FRIDAY EVENING WORKSHOPS

*open to anyone attending the Friday dance

  • Description TBA <3

  • Whether it’s the first time you’ve danced micro or you just want to meet some other dancers, come get your weekend off to a great start.

 SATURDAY WORKSHOPS

2 - 3 pm Saturday

  • If you like hugs, then this class is for you! We’ll be breaking apart the elements of a casual, everyday hug in order to understand how we are holding our bodies as we hug. We’ll run a few hug experiments to figure out what feels good to us and what doesn’t, then add in a dynamic range of tones and textures to play with. Let’s create a captivating, never-ending connection with our partner that gently ebbs and flows with the music - a little micro cocoon between you and your partner.

  • Learn how to give clear signals while distinguishing between intentional styling and movement "noise" that interferes with partner connection. We'll practice getting comfortable with stillness and silence, learning to move only when genuinely inspired rather than filling space or running a movement pattern script out of habit. This class brings awareness to your automatic movement patterns, helping you evaluate which serve your dancing and which create interference. Through mindful exploration, you'll transform unconscious habits into intentional choices that feed your partner connection.

3:15-4:15 pm Saturday

  • We often think of a switch dance as meeting our partner in the middle of a shifting dialogue while maintaining clear roles, but whose role is it anyway? When you can’t tell who’s leading and who’s following, do you take control? Or drop in and listen? Can you tune in enough to do both?

Understanding that the magic of fusion is in its co-creation, we’ll explore offering (and accepting) space for both partners to find their voice and make distinctly subtle decisions in the conversation of a dance.

  • Explore the different intentions conveyed through touch to imbue our dances with different experiences, emotions, and intents. What would a simple touch that conveys greeting look like versus a touch that conveys empathy? Or a touch that carries grief or gratitude? After practicing how to actively access those emotions in touch we will explore actively conveying it through our dance.

4:15 - 4:45 pm Saturday: Open Practice

4:45 -5:45 pm Saturday

  • Let’s talk about how to move with big energy in a micro container without breaking that intimacy. We’ll explore large movements in close embrace, micro movements in open positions, and how to isolate larger gestures effectively.

We will delve into "micro" in a big way, all while maintaining the connection, closeness, and subtlety that we love about micro movements.

  • How do we design pathways in our bodies that deliver movement that flow as seamlessly and intuitively as well planned city streets? This class will have us dropping into our bodies and paving roads that feel delicious, interesting, and intuitive for ourselves and our partners. While building our maps, we'll explore scope (highways, boulevards, roads, alleys), textures (paved, potholey, gravel), speed limits, and juggling number of used pathways.

6 - 7 pm Saturday

  • Discover the secret sauce of cozy connection, where the dance is led and followed through the body—no hands, no tension, just the essence of a chest-to-chest connection. We’ll uncover the technique behind the magic of master micro dancers, where even the subtlest shift creates ripples of shared movement. Through posture, tone, and breath, we’ll explore how to communicate intention and listen with the whole body. With a dialed-in body lead, you’ll transmit and receive information at the speed of delight—effortless, precise, and deeply satisfying. Come feel what it’s like to move as two, dancing as one.

  • Our dance can be spacious as mist and as dense as molten earth. We’ll explore a wide range of textures—from the subtle 'touch' of shifting presence in the space between us, to the slow, grounded richness of attuned shared weight and compression. We’ll lab with our partners and explore attention, intention, receptive tone, state shifting, counterbalance, rolling points of contact, and gradual calibration. Inspired by the quality of magma, we’ll invite a specific and cellular way of meeting, each movement unfolding like magma rolling over itself.

7 - 9 pm Saturday

  • A BIPoC social space to connect, converse, and share treats with other BIPoC community members. Some tasty treats provided.

SUNDAY WORKSHOPS

2 - 3 pm Sunday

  • We'll be learning the foundational dots and dashes to build micro conversationality. With these base building blocks, we can start to play with drawing more complex shapes in more and more dimensions.

  • To be announced <3

3:15 - 4:15 pm Sunday

  • What makes a dance feel right—for you? We’ll explore how to adapt close connection and subtle movement to suit your unique body and experience. From adjusting embraces to rethinking technique, we’ll investigate how to co-create dances, using our collective wants and needs for the experience as fuel for exploration. This is a space where micro becomes even more meaningful: where small choices create big shifts, and where your authenticity is not just welcome—it’s essential.

  • Borrowing from the work of Brené Brown, Non-Violent Communication, and Emily’s almost 15 years of experience teaching Krav Maga (street fighting/self-defense) we are going to dive into the art of setting boundaries, accepting personal responsibility and handling consent in a way that fosters trust, learning and community rather than division and disempowerment.

Get grounded in your strength to speak up even when it’s hard. Get rooted into your skills of empathy and listening so you can compassionately respond to someone else’s truth (even if it conflicts with your own truth). This is a hands-on, experiential workshop to grapple with the sometimes tough work of human interaction on the dance floor (and in life), in a safe and supportive environment. Please come with a pen, paper, and your 'curiosity hat' on.

4:15 - 4:45 pm Sunday ~ Open Practice

4:45 - 5:45 pm Sunday

  • Think that song is too boring or repetitive? Love those consistent beats, but worried that you don't have enough variety in your moves to make the dance fun and engaging for your partner? From simple and spacious songs, to consistent grooves, to complex and upbeat electronic tracks; In this class we'll explore identifying patterns, layers, and textures in the music and embodying them through isolations, planes, and shapes to create more engaging and variable dances for both ourselves and our partners.

  • Transform your following from simply responding to co-creating. We’ll explore how high-fidelity followership opens up infinite possibilities within each lead—where the move offered is just the starting point. Together, we’ll play with bending time: slowing, stretching, or accelerating the dance, and space bending: shifting tone and texture in the body to completely change the feel of each moment. While this class centers advanced follow skills, experienced leads are warmly invited to help elevate your attunement. These dances unlock only when both partners are attuned, responsive, and ready to co-create magic.

6 - 7 pm Sunday

  • Discover the subtle art of micro movement as we explore how different dance styles express their essence through the smallest gestures, posture shifts, and rhythmic emphasis. We’ll practice maintaining the authentic character of each dance without creating a muddy blend. You'll learn to read a dancer's background through their micro movement signatures—how they carry their posture, which body parts they emphasize, and what rhythms they naturally highlight. By the end of class, your micro movements will flow effortlessly between disciplines while honoring each dance's unique movement quality and connection style.

  • This class is all about moving at a snail’s pace, slowly and languidly. We’ll be examining life through the lens of a humble snail, discovering how we can find patience and leisure in the art of slowing down. With ease and simple enjoyment, we’ll be playing with lag, body control, and finding tranquility in movement. No urgency, no rush, just being exactly where you are in the present moment.

Let’s go dance! 💙💙💙
